Tips for travel
It’s hard not to get
derailed when you’re on the road. Workouts are easy to skip and you have less
control over your meals when eating out. With that in mind, here are a few tips
for when you’re travelling:
Pack snacks so you’re not
skipping meals or getting stuck out and about without food options. Good
options include:
o Shakeology or protein
powder
o Nuts (almonds, cashews,
peanuts – unsalted)
o Quest protein bars
o Apples
o Squeezable applesauce
o Refillable water bottle
o Shaker cup for protein
shakes/Shakeology
·
When you arrive, scope out the
hotel gym and if possible take a laptop and your DVDs with you to exercise in
the room. If all else fails, go for a run or make up an on-the-spot stair
workout! When you are committed to a plan, you can’t let travel stop you from
getting your workout in.
·
When eating out, know that it’s
ok to ask for your vegetables to be steamed rather than sautéed, for a
vegetable side in place of fries, or for your chicken to be grilled rather than
cooked in a rich sauce. Try to avoid meals with heavy cream sauces, fried foods
and when in doubt, ask for your salad dressing on the side you can control the
amount.
·
Try to limit your alcohol
consumption. This may be hard to do on vacation or when out with clients, but
do what you can. Remember, if you do have a few drinks, hydrate, hydrate,
hydrate and when you’re feeling like a truck ran you over the next day, know
that Shakeology is great cure for a hangover.
Most importantly, don't beat yourself up. Vacation or travel shouldn't be a free-for-all but also know that you do what you can, when you can. As long as you're trying to make the best choices you can, you're going to be fine.
